This is my list of must have Firefox extensions. These are the extensions i can't live without. I put them here for myself so i'm able to setup new firefox installations properly without great hassle.
This is just my list of useful extensions. There are many more out there.
Usability
- All-In-One Sidebar
- All-in-One Sidebar (AiOS) is an award-winning sidebar control, inspired by Opera's. It lets you quickly switch between sidebar panels, view dialog windows such as downloads, extensions, and more in the sidebar, or view source or websites in the sidebar.
- MR Tech Toolkit
- The primary goal of this extension is to provide the tools needed to install and manage extensions and themes locally and tons of other features.
- It's all Text
- Edit textareas using an external editor, because it's all text!
- Clippings
- Save frequently-entered text for pasting later.
- I use this extension mainly with bugzilla. It's handy to have FAQ entries available.
- Link Alert
- Changes the cursor to indicate the target of a link.
- Mouseless Browsing
- Mouseless Browsing (MLB) enables you to browse the web entirely with the keyboard. The basic principle is to add small boxes with unique ids behind every link and/or form element. You just have to type in the id and press enter (there is also an automatice mode available) to trigger the corresponding action i.e. following a link, pressing a button or selecting a textfield...
- Menu Editor
- Customize application menus: Rearrange or remove menuitems from the main context menu (right-click menu) and main menubar (File Edit View etc.)
Browsing
- Fast Dial
- Fast access to your favorite sites through thumbnails, like Opera Speed Dial.
- I user Speed Dial before and think there is no major difference between those two.
- NoScript
- The best security you can get in a web browser! Allow active content to run only from sites you trust, and protect yourself against XSS.
Bookmarks
- Add Bookmark Here 2
- Add a menuitem "Add Bookmark Here..." to Bookmarks...
- Small but useful addition. Can't Bookmark anything without.
- Scrapbook
- Helps you to save Web pages and organize the collection.
- Zotero
- Zotero [zoh-TAIR-oh] is a free, easy-to-use Firefox extension to help you collect, manage, and cite your research sources.
Page Informations
- View Cookies
- Adds a tab to the Page Info dialog box, which shows the cookies belonging to the current page.
- View Dependencies
- View Dependencies adds a tab to the Page Info window, in which it lists all the files which were loaded to show the current page.
Web Development
- HTML Validator
- HTML Validator is a Mozilla extension that adds HTML validation inside Firefox and Mozilla. The number of errors of a HTML page is seen on the form of an icon in the status bar when browsing. The details of the errors are seen when looking the HTML source of the page
- Firebug
- Firebug integrates with Firefox to put a wealth of development tools at your fingertips while you browse. You can edit, debug, and monitor CSS, HTML, and JavaScript live in any web page.
- FireCookie
- Firecookie is an extension for Firebug that makes possible to view and manage cookies in your browser.
- YSlow
- YSlow analyzes web pages and tells you why they're slow based on Yahoo's rules for high performance web sites.
- Rainbow for Firebug
- Javascript syntax highlighting for Firebug.
- Pixel Perfect
- Pixel Perfect is a firefox firebug extension that allows web developers to easily overlay a web composition over top of the developed html.
- Unicode Input Tool/Converter
- Unicode lookup and chart view; converts entities or character references (hex and dec) into Unicode and back.
